1. Korea Music Wave Experience

I worked the event. I don’t want to go too deep into my experiences, but a lot of people have been asking about it so I thought I’d bullet point some notable moments. Positive only.

    • I officially stan for Sistar. They were the friendliest bunch, by far. They converted every single one of us into fans. Down to earth and fun.

    • I don’t think you guys understand how hot Sistar is. My jaw dropped when I saw all four walk out of their hotel rooms in animal print. They looked soo good. And they all wore 5+ inch heels that made them tall as, if not taller, than me. Even when they got off their 12+ hour long flight, they had an aura around them.
    • I’m going to preface what I’m going to say that these artists shouldn’t have to entertain working staff backstage. They want to relax, focus, and prepare for whatever they need to do, so I don’t think ANYONE should expect to be able to talk and hang out with these artists.

I recruited a bunch of people I know to translate for every artist. Most of them ended up waiting outside their dressing rooms, instead of being inside, which SHOULD be expected. They want to be able to let their guard down and not worry about living up to the expectations that the public have of them. Sistar’s interpreter, Jennifer, was probably the only one inside the dressing room the whole time, eating with them, and everything. (Edit: Hailey was inside the whole time with the Wonder Girls, as well. Sunye and Hyelim were especially nice. :))

When we went to drop them off at the airport they looked for Jennifer and gave her a hug and said how they would miss her and wanted to see her again. They all signed an album and gave it to her before she left. Fans showed up and their manager wouldn’t let them stop and sign albums, but they begged their manager to let them spend some time with them; and they did. They were cooing about how cute and nice their fans were after they left.
    • Luna was considered the nicest from f(x), with Amber being a really close second. I met Amber’s sister, not knowing it was her, and escorted her backstage to get her a pass. I thought she was really cool and was curious who she knew, but then someone told me she was Amber’s sister. She took off her sunglasses and I was floored at how much they look alike. Amber and her sister Jackie both have really good personalities. Amber got it from her mama sister.
    • Sistar wanted to shop a bit before they had to fly back to Korea. They split and went in all directions once they got to the Great Mall. If you were lucky, you probably saw them running around by themselves — with the exception of Bora who had Jennifer.
    • The guys were all skinny. I thought mblaq would have been bigger, but people were saying how my body was comparable to theirs, in terms of frame — which sucks for mblaq. They were just really toned. I kept joking that I’d poison one of them and replace them during their performance. During rehearsals, I would dance with them at the corner of the stage acting like I’m memorizing the choreo to perform at a moments notice. Several MBC staff approached me and complimented me and asked if I had any ambitions of being a singer. The stage designer, in particular, seemed to like it and asked me to dance several times. *___* 나 케스팅 당헸어.
    • I rode the bus with the Wonder Girls to SFO to drop them off and I fell asleep. Not that they were boring, but they were just all tired and napping as well. I felt bad when the coordi (stylist) had to tap me awake once we were close. I’m glad they didn’t complain about that. Whoops.
    • mblaq played Diablo during their down time.
    • Hyoyeon and Sunny were the only ones from SNSD that really came out of their dressing rooms to hang out.
    • I went to an isolated part of the back to watch the show on the monitor. Kara’s Hara and Nicole came out soon after and sat at my table and watched. Their manager came and kept trying to get them to go inside, but they wouldn’t budge. I’d like to attribute this to the fact that they thought I was hot.
    • At the airport, one of the Sistar members had to go to the bathroom. Since the manager had to escort them, he forced everyone to go, but Dasom stayed with me instead. I’d also like to think that this was because she thought I was hot. We talked and told her how we became a fan of Sistar, but she kept saying how it’s probably a lie and how we probably say that to all the girl groups.
    • During Sistar’s rehearsal to the song “So Cool,” which is my jam now BTW, I had to work backstage. Once I was done I ran out to the front and started to dance next to them right off stage. During the breakdown Hyorin turned around and locked eyes with me and we laughed and danced for a few seconds before she had to turn back around and face the audience. I can now say I danced with Hyorin. After that Sistar would always 인사 (bow/greet) when they saw me. Duh. They thought I was one of the performers. Which leads me to…
    • I was mistaken for a member of Beast. LOL! I was at the airport and escorting singers to their terminals. I was with girl group members and their fans when Strong Kim (head of security, flown in from Korea) suddenly reached out and stopped a few fans from touching me. I was mistaken for a member of Beast and was getting asked to sign something. The best part is that they saw me from the front and didn’t approach me from the back, meaning they saw my face. Unfortunately, this just means that Beast fans just don’t know what Beast looks like.
    • I exchanged a lot of information with different MBC staff and directors, telling me to contact them if I was ever in Korea. That they’d introduce me to singers in more casual settings and would love to work with me again. It’s nice when you’re recognized for your hard work and they want to work with you again.
    • Yubin was hands down the hottest one from Wonder Girls. She looked stage ready the whole time. Sistar all looked good with no makeup.
    • I gave an announcement over the PA system right before the concert began. I really didn’t want to do it and when I got done the staff began to laugh as well. I got hella texts immediately after from so many people telling me they recognized my voice. FML
    • Like I said, because Sistar was the nicest, Jennifer was the only one to get a real picture with the artists. I had so many opportunities to take pictures, but I was working and wanted to maintain that level of professionalism. I guess this will have to do:
    • There is a lot more I can go into, but this is enough for now.
  2. Hiking: Mission Peak

Erica in her mommy outfit. Brian and Jon flaked, but I don’t think they would have been able to handle the hike anyways. Weak.

Breathtaking? I know. And after that, my butt is going to make me look like a Kardashian. I’ve been on the top 3 times now, but this time was the hardest. I guess it was the heat. I still got up without stopping in exactly an hour. The next time I go, I want it to look like this:

    Anyone care to join?

  3. Waste of Time

Can you see the Golden Gate Bridge in the back? Kind of? And this…

  4. mickeycho:

    mickey cho - celebrate

    BUY JOY

I love this! :) Obviously, my fans aren’t still too happy that The Playa Boyz are no longer together and that Mickey Cho went solo. You guys heard about the fight, right? Here is an article from a few weeks ago, copy and pasted from the SF Chronicle:

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - An argument between music fans turned violent at a local shopping mall today, as a brutal fight broke out between a Mickey Cho fan and a Charlie fan.

The incident occurred in the food court, when a fan of Charlie was enjoying a soy latte while on break from their shift at the Armani Exchange. Meanwhile, a Mickey Cho fan was enjoying Del Taco while on break from his shift at The Dollar Tree. According to witnesses, the Charlie fan was listening to “Dear Satan (It’s Over),” when he was accosted by the Mickey Cho stan. The Mickey stan told the Charlie fan that Charlie was a “flop” and that Mickey Cho was the “true king of music.” The fan of Charlie replied that “popularity as a singles artist is fleeting. Charlie has already established himself as a stronger pop cultural force in less than half the time Mickey Cho has been out. Good day.” The Mickey Cho fan wanted to reply, but as a fan of Mickey, the only words he recognized were “singles” and “fleet.” He took the words that he didn’t know as a sign of disrespect and began to physically attack the fan of Charlie.

The fight escalated when a Jacob Chung and Won Lee stan jumped from behind the counter at Louis Vuitton to help the Charlie fan and a Christopher Hwang and Daniel Kim stan jumped from behind the counter at McDonalds to help the Mickey Cho fan. Things would have taken a horrific turn if not for the quick actions of a food court employee. A Taco Bell cashier, identified as Nicole Jung, 24, intervened, pulling the fighting fans apart.

“It was absolutely scary,” said Jung. “If I had not broken it up, that Charlie fan would have ax-kicked that Mickey Cho stan to death.”

No serious injuries were reported, and as of press time, it is unclear if any charges would be pressed.

  5. What the hell is TOP (of Big Bang) doing in the Bay Area?

    Close enough.

  6. Hey Tayson!

    I know you’re not sleeping…

Tried to put him to bed to go out, but ended up taking him along.

  7. Aug. 16, 2011_Mission Peak_Fremont, CA

We’re just three guys and we’re having a good time, having a good time, having a good time. After our hike, we had some bomb soondoobu. I got mine extra, extra spicy. Duh.

  8. Harry Potter & Handsome

I got home at around 4:30 and I tried to take a nap in preparation for the midnight viewing of Harry Potter, but the anticipation is killing me and I can’t get a wink of sleep. I’m relying on adrenaline to keep me up. This will be me, taken from Jen’s tumblr, clutching onto my wand and all:

And these were taken during Esther and Steve’s engagement party. I’ve learned that I look te best in the dark.

I hate to say it, but I think I look handsome in these. Who agrees?

Oh and if you’re wondering, that’s Connie next to me. Taken by Aimee.

  9. Random FB Profile Pictures

Remember my previous post where I went back and chose a few tagged pictures to share? Heres a post with profile pictures:

NOIMI. She’s obviously not into me. This must be Inception tbh.

My dog Milk when I first got her. People would always ask if she was a polar bear. LOL! I swear. Mostly kids, but some adults. Some really dumb adults.

Top of the World in Fremont. Amazing view. Especially in this picture.

Conan O’Brien! One of my idols. I waant to go to a live taping!!!

    Yeah, concentrate on that.

Tripod! Summer of… 2007? Eric was in Korea so we designated him to be the thing that went on top of the tripod.

LOL I’m wearing a Hollister shirt. Chris is wearing BAPE — Baby Milo. ~Changes~

We literally fell asleep like this during down time at our fall retreat.

Club Tanglewood. And yes that hat says “BLACK REBEL.” I don’t understand it either and if you don’t like it you can SUCK IT. JK, God bless you.

A Korean cafe in LA. I miss LA.

The Grove! From the Bay to LA. West coast is the best coast!

A shot from my stint as a world class top model. It wasn’t for me.

PSA Andrea and I did. Remember kids, friendship always wins!

My VBS class! My first class as a part of Children’s Ministry at DKC. I miss them so much… seriously my best behaved class EVER and I was hella spoiled to have them. I have to, like, micromanage some kids, but they were perfect angels. Patient, enthusiastic, and willing to learn!

Taken at Zepher (?) Point aka Prayer Mountain.

    Christopher… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyhYsOnXzRM

A shot from when I was playing Naaman. I was nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor this year. I should have won for this scene alone.

What we did during downtime of filming the Naaman video. Christina pushing me into the pool. And I’m not going to lie, it hurts falling into the water like that. Think of a bellyflop, except it’s your back.

LOL, I love this picture. First of all, look at that audience. They are loving what I’m doing. I’m always gathering crowds and raising interest! And if you’re curious, Hanna and I are acting. She’s shooting me with guns and I’m catching bullets like Superman, but with the grace of a ballerino.

That is all. And I’m sorry if this flooded your dashboard. Hopefully it wasn’t that bad since they minimize the pictures if you’re viewing it from there.

  10. RANDOM FB PICTURE POST

I kind of went through my FB and thought I’d share some pictures that stuck out to me for one reason or another… I should do one with my profile pictures.

This is when I first got my camera and wanted to try things out with it. I won’t disclose what I attempted to write above my housemates… it’s better left unsaid.

Junmo. If you’re seeing this, I want you to know how much restraint I show in not giving you t***** t***. I literally chased Mickey around church grabbed him and killed him a little bit inside. I’m so evil.

Andrea and I doing a midair high five. I call it “FRIENDSHIP ALWAYS WINS.”

Chris and I in LA. The Grove, I believe. I miss it… I need to go to socal sometime soon.

It’s not even fake blood. It’s red velvet cake mix.

Shinhee and I being a robot. I completely fell apart before I even got to sit down.

My birthday. Look at our kitchen.

I got revenge… I heard my house even had feathers to stick onto me after the syrup, but they were misplaced.

How I spent the rest of my birthday. Alone in the corner.

I fell and no one even bothers to react.

If only people knew what we were looking at… Won, do you still have it?!

VBS! The boy teachers… it starts REALLY soon this year. I think tomorrow? Or the day after.

    I don’t even know. I just like how handsome I look here… lol :B

Christina loves getting hugs from me.

The most intense game of Jenga I have ever played. Can you tell that I was stressed?!

Avatar. Cause Michelle didn’t paint her lips, it looks a bit like blackface…

Was this our fourth or fifth date?

Heel clicking olympics. I took home the gold despite Jacob’s attempt at sabotage.

Children’s Ministry! I miss this group!!!

    UCD graduates!

People were HELLLLLLLA yelling at me. Trying to get me to GTFO, but I stayed as long as I could. I just wanted to dance. They wouldn’t let me dance…

I miss Ellie. Look how happy I look.

I like this picture, because of the sunlight blocking my face. You can’t see me and I look like I could be good looking or something or something…

I have never seen anyone drink a shot like Samantha. It was her first time and she slowly sips on it, like it’s wine — just short of gargling it. I, on the other hand, will toss it back and aim for the back of my throat hoping I have tasted as little as possible.

    I’m fancy, huh?

  11. Playa Boyz: True Hollywood Story

Damn, Won! You doin’ it REAL big with The Imaginary Zebra. Want me to get you on the cover of my magazine? In fact, all of Playa Boyz is blowin’ it up! Won with his modeling, Mickey pursuing his rapping, Jacob is going to be Dr. Chung, and I do it all baby. Triple quadruple threat (some things you just got to count twice).

I’m just curious why I haven’t received a call asking for advice. As a seasoned model (Love Seams + Noimi), I have a lot of advice to give. #justsaying

Mickey just performed with Clara Chung and Dumbfoundead last night at UC Davis. Here he is at a fansigning right after the show:

Wait… Oh. Well, that’s what happens when you cross me and go solo without letting any of the rest of us know. That album came straight outta the cuts and was a slap in the face. JK! But in all seriousness, I hear this was only for like a second and hella people were all over Mickey.

And I hate to brag, but I will… so if any of you have this album you can see that I have been mentioned in his “thanks to” so that is reason enough to get it. Head to his website to listen to his music for free and/or buy either a physical or digital copies of his album at http://www.mickeycho.com/ Only $10 ya’ll!

I miss The Playa Boyz. I hate that Jacob is all the way in Socal while the rest of us are in Norcal. It’d be a lot more fun if we were all conveniently within a 30 minute radius. We need to have a comeback.

P.S. Comment system has been reinstated. Not that any1currs.

  12. Twitter Update

Sharing some of my tweets. If you have a twitter and is interested in following me: http://www.twitter.com/challyu/

  13. First World Problems

I’ve begun to realize how much I don’t care for drinking. I personally see nothing wrong with it. I’m of age and not getting drunk, but it’s something I don’t need in my life. I think when you REALLY believe in something, it changes you.

But I don’t intend to cut it out of my life completely. For one, I can’t. Some business situations call for a glass or two. Either to get a client tipsy right before negotiations, a tactic familiar in the business world, or to boost egos. One guy we’re working with has a vineyard in Napa and rebuffing a glass of his wine could potentially offend him. Two, some social situations just are better with a little bit of liquor. In those cases, I plan to just get one and nurse it all night.

And a trick if you’re ever in a situation where you have to have a drink for the sake of appearance or you want to get a client drunk… make sure you have a can of coke and a straw. Drink as much of the coke as you can so there is room. Whenever you take a sip of your alcohol, spit it back into the can. I know it sounds disgusting, but c’est la vie. Gotta do what you gotta do.

Addendum: I’m still going to joke like I still get drunk though. It’s my shtick. LOL! #tigerblood
